Acquavella is located at 18 East 79th Street in New York City, it occupies a five-story French neo-classical townhouse.

For over eighty years, Acquavella gallery has sold preeminent paintings and sculptures to private museums and collectors worldwide. Museum-quality exhibitions have been presented at the gallery, including those of Monet, Degas, Cézanne,Renoir, Pissarro, Bonnard, Tanguy, Léger, Picasso, Modigliani, Matisse, Rauschenberg, Sisley, Feininger, Giacometti, and Miró.

The Acquavella gallery is the exclusive international agent for the acclaimed British painter Lucian Freud, James Rosenquist, and Damian Loeb. Acquavella gallery is also the American agent for Beijing-based painter Zeng Fanzhi.

Tsutomu Takashima, Michael Findlay, Esperanza Sobrino and are the directors at Acquavella gallery. Their combined experience constitutes a wide range of expertise in acquisition, education and appraisal. Business at the gallery can be conducted in Spanish, Japanese, French and Italian, as well as English.

The gallery originally specialized in works of the Italian Renaissance. In 1960 William Acquavella joined his father and the focus of the gallery expanded to major works of the 19th and 20th centuries. Acquavella Gallery was founded by Nicholas Acquavella in 1921 and is owned and operated by the Acquavella family. These included masters of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Surrealism and Cubism. William Acquavella has recently been joined by daughter Eleanor and sons Alexander and Nicholas. The entire range of 20th century art is now represented, including Pop Art and Abstract Expressionism.
